Yes, I had low blood pressure (in the range of 85/55 - 90/60) for a few weeks after my surgery, however this improved considerably once I was able to start drinking and eating solid food again, and when I was able to get up and move around regularly.

Since your problem is persisting, there are a few things that should be checked (if they haven't already):

- Sodium levels. Low sodium can affect blood pressure, and without your colon you may have issues with sodium absorption. You will need blood tests to rule this out.

- Hydration. Dehydration can cause a drop in blood pressure. You may not be absorbing enough fluid, even if you are drinking. You may benefit from IV rehydration.

- Anemia. Blood loss is obviously common as a result of surgery, especially of this nature as the colon has a lot of blood vessels. Have your hemoglobin checked. Low hemoglobin can cause a drop in PB.

- Medication. Depending on what you've been prescribed post-op, some meds can affect blood pressure. You may want to review these with your doctor as a possible cause.

Hope you feel better soon.

Are you on any blood pressure or similar medications?  Four months after my BCIR surgery I experienced very low blood pressure and had to go to the ER and receive hydration with an IV.  I had lost about 40 pounds post-op.  The cause was determined to be the blood pressure medication, which was immediately reduced.  My GP followed up several weeks later and made further reductions in my medication.  I have regained some of the lost weight as my appetite returned and have had no further blood pressure or dehydration problems since.  Hope things work out soon for you.

Thank you for your replyes. I lost 23 pounds after surgery, what is a lot for my high of 69 inches, I don't take any medication accept Controllock(for my stomach),I dring 6 - 7 coups of water and 2-3 cups of freah fruit juces a day,I start walking 2 week after surgery and I eat solid foods(regarding my diet). So,duet to post op recovery,  I am "school book example". My hemoglobin is higher than averige and I went before surgery to hematologist and still need to take some blood tests becouse they suspect I have blood disease "lakc of factor VIII". And before surgery, for years,I had high blood pressure and belive me I feeled so much better. Becouse low pressure I feel like I am going insane and problem is I can't sleep.

I have low blood pressure now.  Well the 90 over 68 they just measured yesterday is still in the normal range but still on the low side.  This happens to me most of the time now.  I am wondering if my J Pouch is to blame for this or could it be something else?   If anything my pouch is why I'm anemic now

Yes, I had low blood pressure (90/60) during the first couple of years with my jpouch. It increased after I put much needed weight on and became more hydrated. One thing that helped me was the "legs up the wall" yoga pose. Lay perpendicular to the wall with your buttocks against it and your legs straight up against the wall. A few minutes each day, as long as you have no contraindications medically. It's not a cure-all, but it can help.

Yup, very low...when I had my possible "TIA" or whatever that was my pressure was critically low...90/50 and lower depend on the hour...Sometimes hard to lift my head off of the pillow some mornings....that is why I refused the BP meds that they wanted me on "just in case"...I need to est salt or my head swims, I work out quite a bit and don't have a/c so I sweat...and lose salts....my k pouch runs watery unless I am on opiates (I hate them ) so salt is an issue for me....but salt isn't enough...you need a full panel....electrolytes are more than just sodium...if you can replace your electrolytes and keep up your hydration and if after that your BP is still too low...then you need a professional's advice.

This is not a one-time shot but a lifelong battle.

It is all about the day-to-day maintenance of your body.
