Hi.  I have had my J-pouch for about 15 years now.  I am often in the hospital due to blockages.  Recently they are getting worse.  Over the past week I have had 2 blockages.  I am very careful about not eating anything too chewy.  I am getting to the point where soup might have to be my constant diet.  Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?  I am concerned that the hours of vomiting might have "damaged" my pouch in someway. I did have a scope and the GI doctor said all seemed fine.  Any suggestions on what could be the cause of these blockages?

thank you

In all likelihood, you have adhesions (internal scar tissue) that are binding your intestines like rubber bands. We all get them after abdominal surgery. Some more than others. The only solution is surgery to release them. I am surprised your doctors have not explained this to you. The reason that surgery is not the first choice is that further surgery can cause more adhesions to form. Sometimes it just becomes necessary.

I would suggest you see a surgeon to discuss this, as your quality of life seems intolerable.
