Needed to chat with folks while I sit here waiting word from the hospital about my daughter. She had a pull down about 15 years ago - lately she developed a abcess and in so much pain - they are doing all the tests - it was not drainable - she kept her rectum due to a great resident who told her it was her body, a decision she has never regreted. I pray that things work out for her - anyone else ever have a abcess??

I had an abscess develop 10 years after jpouch surgery. Was not drainable. I was on antibiotics on and off for a few years due to fevers and pain that would develop. A radiologist in Philadelphia (University of PENN) found a small hole in the pouch which was causing the recurrent abscess. The treatment was same day surgery wherein the hole was not closed, but instead made larger so that everything could flow in and out without getting trapped. When things got trapped, that caused the abscess. Surgery was 2 years ago and not on any medication since. Hopefully your daughter is feeling better.
