Hi all. I was diagnosed with a fistula by my barium enema x-ray before my final take down surgery. Needless to say, that surgery is on hold until we can fix the fistula. Has anyone else had this happen? And is this a foreshadow of a problem j pouch in the future. Any and all advise will be appropriate.

Thanks

Aimee

Hi Amy.  Yes it is fixable.  I’m not sure what kind of fistula this is, but my son had a fistula from his pouch to a huge collection in his pelvic cavity.  It was diffficult to locate and more difficult to repair.  I don’t know where you are located, it he was and is being treated in NYC.  They fixed it with a biological plug.  It worked in that leak, now he has a new one.  One day at a time!  Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Jeffsmom. This fistula is in the lower left side. That's all is said in the report from the barium enema x-ray. Man all this stuff we go through, right. I think most of use still will and have gone through with our surgeries. I'm hoping if this thing has been fixed that my take down will be may 15th. If not, I will do whatever else the surgeon wants to do and hope for the best.
