I have read a lot about Calmoseptine being a must have after having the j pouch surgery. It's seems we don't sell it in the UK. I thought I had ordered off Amazon but I was sent a tube of something called hemosan. Is this the UKs version of Calmoseptine or something completely different. Has anyone used hemosan for butt burn. I've been told ilex paste is good too but we don't sell it and it's so expensive to be shipped here. Does anyone know of creams that we sell here in the UK to combat butt burn or how to get ur hands on or equivalent of Calmoseptine cream. Thanks. Xx

Calmoseptine is mostly zinc oxide and menthol. Some folks (including me) find the menthol too exciting for application to our nether regions, while others swear by it. I mostly used plain zinc oxide ointment, which is cheap and available everywhere, and got great results from using it religiously. After the first year I rarely used any barrier cream. There’s a milder one called Ferguson Formula that I liked better than Calmoseptine, but I’ve never met anyone else who used it.

I'm in UK and I just imported calmoseptine off eBay (postage is moderate), it is so much better than other products I have used.  However, although I have a few tubes, I no longer need to use it.

I find a better technique is simple sudocreme, cheap as chips and really easy to get hold of.  Simply blot (don't wipe) after bathroom, then a small amount of sudocreme and a single wipe to revive any dirt and leave you protected.  You feel normal after use..

Only time I use calmoseptine now is of I do get burn (maybe I eat something really spicy or by gravelly high in fibre, calmoseptine takes the heat out with it's menthol, but I find it the lesser of 2 evils rather than desirable to have the menthol. But it's rare I get affected if I use the sudocreme correctly

I too tried Calmoseptine and found the menthol in it much too much for my delicate region.  Plain zinc oxide cream worked best for me.  You only need a thin layer.  I used cream for about the first year and now just put up with a little burn every once in a while.  I do find that if I have been in a damp bathing suit or spending oodles of time in the ocean I get very itchy.  That seems to bother me more than the burn.  My jpouch was in 2013 and I’m very happy to report I am fit, well, and really enjoying life.

Great. Will speak to my GP about about the ilex paste. I have bought a few other barrier creams to try  out. Will buy some zink oxide cream too. I also was thinking about buying zink oxide powder that I found on Amazon. Thought about chucking a table spoon in a sitz bath and see if that helps. So nice to hear someone is happy with their j pouch. I feel people only post bad things but I guess that's because the people who are fit and well are too busy enjoying life to come on these sights. I promise if mine is successful I won't forget to share that on this website. Thanks for the info. Xx x x

 Colon Cutie,

I would encourage trying both the plain zinc oxide ointments as well as Calmlseptine (the menthol may have a cooling and calming effect on any inflammation or burn), but I think something very important is being overlooked which I wanted to mention. The zinc oxide ointments on the market vary widely in the percentage of zinc oxide, from 40% (Desitin) to 10% or less in brands like A&D. The higher the %, the thicker the cream. I found the thicker creams caulked my butt cheeks together whereas the creamier ones with lower % zinc oxide didn’t form a good barrier. I found 13%-20% range best. You need to try different ones and see what works. It’s all a grand experiment and your ass is the guinea pig!!!!😁

Haha you are a funny man CTBarrister. Coloncutie, it's all very individual in what is good for you personally. What one likes doesn't work for another. It's all good though , you have some good opinions, now you find what works best for you. Butt burn sucks, but I really haven't had a ton of problem with it as of yet. Relax a bit, not everyone has a bad time. My biggest problem has been the gas, but it isn't an ensurmount able problem. I'm am a very satisfied new j poucher. You will be fine. Just keep a good attitude and be able to roll a bit with the punches.
