In regards to St Marks who would be the best surgeon to see there?

I think Prof Sue Clark.
But if you have pouchitis, a gastroenterologist seems more appropriate. Would recommend Dr McLaughlin (in Bournemouth), as he's done a lot of research on pouchitis. He worked at St Marks for some years and wrote the St Marks' pouchitis protocols together with Prof Clark.

I am the oldest pouch on this board (since 1981/2, 2 STEP)- it was created by Sir Alan Parks himself and is a Parks Pouch, now commonly known as the J pouch (as Opposed to the S pouch and W pouch). After Sir Alan (knighted by the queen after he treated her mother) died, Professor Nicholls looked after me. Mr. Tekkis (in England, consultants are "MR.") took over from Nicholls. He has the oldest pouches around under his care and is very familiar with all the problems which can arise.
I prefer British medicine on the whole for their conservatism. If I were to have listened to my doctors here in Israel, I'd have been on Humira double quick. The doctors here are American in their outlook.

I had a rather unfortunate experience with Prof Nicholls about 8yrs ago when he refused to take me on in an emergency situation...it left me with a very negative impression of him.
It is nice to know that he is good for other patients.
I have no 'nationality' opinion on surgeons as a whole but more of an individual opinion on their 'humanity' and devotion to their patients and thier ability to empathiese.
I believe that the measure of a good surgeon is what is happening in his/her heart and soul and not just in his/her hands.

Paris Tekkis is a doll!
I am married to a surgeon (ENT) and totally agree with you. Having said that, it is very true that more Humira and Remicade is prescribed in the States and in Israel. In the UK I've heard doctors (some of my family) say American doctors are trigger happy with their prescriptions....

I also had my surgery under Prof Nicholls and Prof Tekkis. Definitely recommend Prof Tekkis.

St. Marks at Northwick Park are the most experienced in looking after problem pouches. Your first port of call there, with something like pouchitis or cuffitis, will be with one of the specialist pouch nurses (they have 3 now). You can contact the pouch nursing team direct via e-mail on nwlh-tr.internalpouchcare@nhs.net. You could also contact IA (info@iasupport.org)  who can give you local support from others in a similar position - Zarah Perry-Woodford, one of the specialist nurses at St. Marks sits on IA's pouch subcommittee and is always available.

Going to get a referral to see Prof Sue Clark. Hope it goes well
