I used to joke with my GF that my sh*t never stinks, because my antibiotic combo wipes out any bacteria causing my BMs to smell.

I'd take a couple of Augmentin & Cipro pills every night before bed, in addition to 6 Loperamide, and everything would be fine the next day.  Depending on how much I ate, I'd have 2-4 BMs which was completely manageable.  When I'd start having more gas than usual or my BMs started to smell, I knew it was time to rotate in some Flagyl for two days.  That 3-AB-combo would reset my guy back to "normal" and I could go back to taking Augmentin + Cipro again for another 10- days.

Sadly that all changed about three months ago.  The 3-AB-combo doesn't seem to reset anything, and the only relief I've found (don't laugh) is in taking a product called "Natural Calm" every night which essentially cleans me out (diarrhea) and leaves nothing in my pouch.

I'd like to get back to my 10-day regimen of Augmentin + Cipro.  Any suggestions on what new AB to try rotating in?  Xifaxan? Something else?

Thanks.

I am having luck with xifaxim.  Hate Cipro augmentin does nothing and won't take flagyl. What is natural calm?  Are you sure it is safe to take that many loperamide pills at once? I'm not sure two to four bowel movements within 24 hours with a pouch is really healthy? I would think that would be more cause for bacteria buildup.

On a whim (and because I read about it being used by some on here), I decided to pick up some Pepto Bismol at Walmart the other day ($1.96 for 40 of the generic caplets is awesome!) and lo and behold it works!  No more frequency issues, bloating, gas, urgency, etc.  I've been off my antibiotics for about 4 days now, taking 2 PB caplets in the morning and 2 in the evening.  My poop is black, but it doesn't bother me.

Anyone else taking PB in place of ABs, and if so how much?  Anyone on PB long term?  Side effects?
