Ok so I see my gastro on Tuesday but today is Wednesday and I wonder about the severity of my symptoms. Here’s the scoop:

Lately I’ve had a few stabbing pains in my side on and off. Nothing major, until last week. Here’s my symptoms now:

- stomach pain and nausea after eating every time

- bad abdominal pains mostly located in left middle off abdomen and spreading to back

- mild fever on and off

- my entire gut feels so bloated I swear my skin is stretching!

- general body aches and pains

- super unending fatigue

- extended abdomen

Has anyone experienced something like this before? Wondering if there is anything I can do to ease the pains a bit.

Trying to avoid the ER as the average wait time for me has been between 6-9 hours!!!

HELP!!!! I’ve had my pouch almost 20 years and never felt this. I’ve had many blockages and lots of bouts of pouchitis but this is different.

Hi MelB,

I would start with simple and work up...

1. It could be a flu or similar type of bug that is going around giving you low-grade fever, aches and pains and nausea (that pretty much covers the flu one you add the fatigue)...in which case it could be over in a matter of days. The remedy? Stay hydrated, take something for fever and pain like Tylenol and use a heating pad to stay warm and cozy on your sofa until it passes.

2. Gallbladder? Although usually on the right side some people feel the pain in strange places but it usually migrates to the back, around the middle or up to the scapula. It can cause, cramping, bloating especially post meals, nausea, dark stools (not always), fever, burping (like a drunken sailor! at least for me), headaches, muscle pain often in the arms and shoulders...the list goes on...and pouchers seem to be more prone to it. You might need an ultrasound to have your gallbladder investigated.

3. Some sort of indigestion, dyspepsia or heartburn...doesn't cover all of the symptoms but quite a few...you might wish to try peoptobismol or something for heart burn that is OTC.

4. Diet...food sensitivities and allergies can have a similar effect on you. Gluten or lactose can cause a lot of the same symptoms. You could try a No Gluten or Lactose week and see if that helps you.
