Reply to "Opium Tincture"

I am taking opium tincture for cramping and pain from a 15 yr old K-pouch. I have had pouchitis on and off for the last 3-4 years. I am now on rifaximan, which seems to be helping the pouchitis. I'm not sure why I am having the cramping and pain, and it's a different scenario every day (doesn't matter what I eat).

The opium tincture does help with the frequency and cramping. I'm not sure how this will affect your j-pouch. (hopefully it will help) It seems to work within 30 minutes (.3ml each time) I do not feel any side effects such as nausea or dizziness. It tastes AWFUL, but I just put some water in my mouth before I take it. When I  take it before bed I have noticed a very dry mouth at night as one side effect. I had to get a prior authorization from the insurance company. The Dr. (Dr. Shen, from Cleveland Clinic) had to write a letter to the insurance company after the first denial. Usually the drug store will have to order it.

Good luck and I hope this helps you. I had colitis for 32 yrs before my surgery at age 55 yrs (female). Thank goodness for this website and all the good advice available from other people. I never knew anyone who had colitis or chrons--and as we know, it's not an easy disease to talk about with others.
